chocolate chip cookies

1 cup brown sugar, packed
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened
2 eggs
3 tbsp milk
1 generous tsp vanilla (the real stuff. this is essential.)
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking powder
2 1/2 cups flour
1 package (a little more than 2 cups?) chocolate chips

preheat oven to 375°f. mix ingredients in roughly the order listed above. spoon onto a cookie sheet and bake for around 10 minutes, until the edges of the cookies are brown. remove from oven. smell, salivate. use a spatula to plop the steaming hot cookies into the palms of you & yours and insert speedily into mouth. mouth the word “hot!!” as you enjoy. maybe wait for the rest of them to cool. share.

variations:

1. add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract when you add the vanilla. seriously, try it.

2. use half white sugar and half brown sugar, add orange extract (1 tsp or so) and the zest from one orange (maybe some of its juice too), and use white chocolate chips. very tasty.
