warmth
layers of my bed, from the floor up:
1. box spring and mattress, carried home a year and a half ago by myself and my three housemates, one of us at each corner, from the discount furniture store five blocks away
2. memory foam mattress pad, which takes my bed from eh to ahhhh…
3. another mattress pad, pulled off of my old bed at my parents’ house at my mother’s suggestion; serves double-duty by being comfy and keeping the other pad from sliding around under the sheet
4. fitted sheet
5. me
6. top sheet
7. old hawaiian hand-appliquéd and hand-quilted quilt; my mom “rescues” these off of ebay in order to ensure that such painstaking handicraft will be appreciated by someone, i think
8. the quilt my mom made for me to take to boarding school (marbled pastels in a compass rose pattern)
9. the quilt my mom made for me to take to college (crushed velvet patchwork with wool batting)
10. strewn on top: ridiculous fuzzy pink blanket, survivor of many a picnic and outdoor adventure, as well as plenty of indoor snuggling
11. folded/crumpled at the foot: a comforter with a purple velvet cover, dating from middle school
12. and: another quilt my mom made, smaller, flannel, turquoise and white in a log cabin pattern
13. kepler

(don’t tell him i put this picture on teh internets.
p.s. i dare you to lolcat caption it.)

Ah, so many memories of that fuzzy pink blanket…
